St. Nicholas House will be deconstructed on a floor-by-floor basis.
Scaffolding will be erected around the whole building
Small robotic breakers will be used to deconstruct walls, floors, beams and columns in sequence.
These small robotic breakers are worked remotely, rather than operators sitting in a cab.
This process will see the building brought down from 14-storeys to a height at which we can safely switch to conventional machine demolition
Approximately 8,000 tonnes of material will be taken out in this phase of the de-construction, which is due to be complete in Spring 2014.
The rest of the buildings will be demolished by specialist demolition machines.
